Local Man Graduates MITT While Operating Two Technology Ventures Simultaneously

Despite a turbulent employment market, Brady Genik, 19, emerges with a diploma, two active platforms, and a homelab that neighbours suspect may be a small data centre.

Brady Genik is a dual Canadian and American citizen based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and a recent graduate of the Manitoba Institute of Trades and Technology — where he completed his Network System Administrator Diploma through an accelerated program run concurrently alongside secondary school.

Before graduating, Genik completed a Work-Integrated Learning internship with the City of Winnipeg's Tech & Innovation Department, where he was responsible for PDU load balancing, ATS configuration, rack diagram design, fiber optic cabling, and Cisco infrastructure deployment across a large multi-site municipal environment. He also researched and presented the feasibility of integrating artificial intelligence into enterprise infrastructure, delivering his findings directly to IT management — a task, he noted, "that nobody asked a 19-year-old to do, but here we are."

During his studies, Genik founded Argus Operations, a commercial datacenter infrastructure management platform currently in active development, featuring two custom-built agents — Morpheus, an SNMP polling agent, and Iris, a VM metrics agent — as well as Pantheon, a self-hosted code repository and deployment platform.

His personal homelab, running Proxmox VE with five Linux virtual machines, a Cisco 3750-E switch, and a self-built NAS, serves as the primary development environment for all Argus Operations products.

Beyond his own ventures, Genik has volunteered with Cyber Wave, instructing local youth on securing operating systems and performing vulnerability scans.

Genik placed 2nd at the 2024 North Forge Ramp Up Weekend and was selected as a Top 10 startup in 2026.

City of Winnipeg Intern Manages Municipal IT Operations

When the City of Winnipeg's Tech & Innovation Department needed someone to keep up with their rapidly evolving infrastructure, they turned to a MITT intern armed with a Cisco switch and an unreasonable amount of ambition.

Genik spent four months managing PDU load balancing across datacenter sections, configuring automatic transfer switches to ensure devices failed over correctly, and designing rack diagrams that determined where every server and switch would live. He also deployed Cisco access points across a large multi-site municipal environment and integrated NetBox and Zabbix for infrastructure documentation and monitoring.

In a move that surprised even his supervisors, he also researched and presented the feasibility of integrating artificial intelligence into the City's enterprise infrastructure — a task nobody asked an intern to do.

Argus Ops Founder Builds Commercial DCIM Platform From Scratch

Sources close to the situation confirm that Brady Genik has been building a commercial datacenter management platform in his spare time. Argus IMS, as it is known, allows network administrators to visualize racks, map ports in real time via SNMP and CDP protocols, manage IP addresses, and configure VLANs — all from a browser.

Two custom software agents, Morpheus and Iris, roam the network collecting data. A third product, Pantheon, ensures client code never leaves their own infrastructure. Investigators remain baffled as to when he sleeps.

Local Pizza Establishment Unknowingly Employs IT Infrastructure Specialist

For the past three years, patrons of a Winnipeg pizza establishment have been unknowingly receiving their orders from a man who also configured their point-of-sale system, troubleshot their router, and replaced failing PoE switches in the back office.

Genik, who lists his title as "Cook, Driver, Cashier, and IT Support," describes the role as "excellent training for high-pressure incident response."

Feature — Home Infrastructure

Neighbours Suspect a Small Data Centre; It Is Merely the Homelab

What began as a single spare machine has quietly become a production-grade data centre. Genik's homelab runs Proxmox VE across five Linux virtual machines, handling databases, deployment pipelines, and a fleet of custom systemd agents that never seem to sleep.

The hardware is no toy. A dedicated server, a Cisco 3750-E switch, and a self-built NAS. That NAS runs Pantheon — Genik's own rsync-based, push-to-deploy platform — ensuring every line of client code stays on-premises rather than drifting off to someone else's cloud.

The lab doubles as the primary development and penetration-testing ground for every Argus Operations product, complete with an Active Directory domain controller humming away on an internal domain. Neighbours, this paper understands, suspect it may be a small data centre. They are not entirely wrong.
